About University Meets Microfinance
Microfinance means offering adapted financial services – credit, savings, insurance and transfer – to poor people excluded from formal banking systems. Innovative approaches to microfinance can foster economic development and access to basic services including housing, health, education or energy.
Microfinance education is an opportunity to broaden the understanding of major development issues and to investigate sustainable approaches to improve living conditions in developing countries and in Europe.
The University Meets Microfinance Programme fosters cooperation between university students in Europe and microfinance practitioners to contribute to microfinance innovation and education for development.
In 2009 and 2010, over 1300 practitioners, students and professors from 10 countries and 26 universities participated in the programme which is co-financed by the European Union.
PlaNet Finance and Freie Universität Berlin initiated the programme in 2009. Read the letter of reccommendation to find out about the cooperation with Freie Universität Berlin.
